District of Uig
The name Uig comes from the Norse word for bay, Uig nestles around an inlet on the West Coast of the Isle of Lewis and offers a range of outdoor activities and more for the traveller.
There are numerous beautiful windswept beaches on the Atlantic coastline the whole area or district is great to explore. With the warm gulfstream and shallow beaches, watersports such as windsurfing and kite boarding are popular.
The area is rich in wildlife and has numerous ancient sites such as stone circles to visit; the area was where the famous Lewis chessmen were discovered.
The wild unspoilt and quiet coastline is a great place for unwinding away from the bustle of everyday life.
