This area of Yorkshire comprises the beautiful dales as well as the wild and rugged North Yorkshire moors.

This area is extremely popular for outdoor enthusiast especially walkers there are rivers, wide-open tracts of moorland, fields, forests, hills and woods all waiting to be explored and enjoyed whatever your sporting interest.

Dotted in between in this beautiful landscape are quaint hamlets, villages, and bustling market towns. This timeless countryside has been the inspiration for countless artists and writers like Tuner and the Bronte’s.

The whole region has something for everyone from great cities like York with its amazing Viking history, medieval walls, and warring Kings to seaside towns such as Whitby inspiration for Bram stoker or Scarborough with its Bracing air and the picturesque fishing hamlet of Staithes.

If beautiful buildings and churches interest you, the county has some great examples such as York Minster, Ripon cathedral and Beverley Minster all distinctive in their own right all equally stunning in appearance. York once competed with London, as the capital so great was its power and influence.

The Yorkshire dales could take a whole volume of work to describe their beauty with evocative names such as Wensleydale Wharfedale, Swaledale and Malham to name a few the whole region is littered with Norse names such as Langthwaite and Aysgarth with its famous falls featured in the Hollywood film Robin Hood Price of thieves.

For the history lover there are countless castles and stately homes to explore Middleham Castle is where Richard III grew up, Richmond one of the country’s oldest fortresses or Bolton castle looking out over Wensleydale. Splendid country homes abound such as Castle Howard featured in film and television.

For the shopper numerous markets are held each week in various towns the serious shopper can visit stately Harrogate or Knaresborough for a more relaxed experience try Pately Bridge or Skipton.
