Tyne and Wear is a relatively new county 1974, born from combining five metropolitan boroughs.
Despite a largely industrial past with large areas once given to coal mining and a centre for ship building the county still has lots to offer the City of Newcastle is a vibrant and popular destination.
Other places of interest include Gateshead the Angel of the north and the Metro centre for shoppers.
The area has an amazing Roman History with Hadrian’s Wall a designated World heritage site nearby.
The Sage theatre is well known nationally.
