Northleach

The town of Northleach was once the pre-eminent town of the Cotswolds and it is hard to believe that this little place was once a bustling centre of commerce the wool from the town was valued all over Europe for its quality and traders from London to Calais praised its qualities.

Today this small Cotswold Market town is very quiet and gets few visitors; the little market square is flanked by buildings of varied architectural styles but the jewel of the town is its glorious church of St Peter and St Paul. Inside there is a wealth of interest with brasses and beautiful stained glass windows the size and splendour of the church is testament to its past wealth as a wool town.

Simon Jenkins includes the church in his book England’s thousand best churches.

The high street contains some nice half-timbered buildings such as Oak house which is situated on high street alongside the market square. Inside you will find Keith Harding’s Museum, the World of mechanical Music, here you can see beautiful restored self-playing instruments there is also a small shop.
