Llanwrtyd Wells

Llanwrtyd Wells claims to be the smallest town in Britain a fact backed up by the Guinness Book of records. What it lacks in size it makes up for in the sheer oddball and outlandish events that the town hosts each year.

These range from Bog Snorkelling, Man versus horse marathon and Mari Llwyd this last custom involves calling at the local houses and reciting welsh poetry while holding a horses skull.

Aside from the crazy antics the town is set amidst some beautiful countryside where walking, cycling and horse riding are very popular. The town was originally a Spa and grew around the Ffynnon Ddrewllyd or stinking well and in its heyday attracted Victorian visitors, the Belle vue hotel was built to accommodate this. In the past the town was also known as an Eisteddfod site.
