Holmfirth last of the Summer Wine

The town of Holmfirth grew up around a corn mill and bridge across the river Holme, it grew in importance as a cloth producer as well as stone and slate production from nearby quarries. Bamforths a local company were early film pioneers 1898 – 1915 but swapped business in favour of seaside postcards which at the time were very popular.

In the 70s up to 2010 the town once again was involved in media as the location for the BBCs longest running sitcom Last of the Summer Wine. This hugely popular and Britain’s longest running comedy show featured the town and local area as the backdrop to the antics of three old men Foggy Clegg and Compo who refused to act their age.

This lovable and eccentric trio have many adventures sometimes to the amusement and detriment of the local townsfolk. The town still gets visitors all wanting to walk the Summer Wine trail in the footsteps of the trio and see the locations such as Syds café their local pub or Norah Battys house.
