Torquay the English Riviera


The town of Torquay is one of three towns that make up the Torbay area, known for its popular beaches of Babbacombe, Cliffside and Oddicombe this Devon town is the epitome of the traditional seaside holiday town.

The town became a fashionable destination after the local land owners the Palks embarked on a major construction plan of the place, building terraces and houses on the hillsides as well as laying out streets and extending the harbour.

Torquay is the main destination for those visiting the English Riviera Coast and is full of charm and packed with things to do. Tourist attractions include Kent’s cavern the country’s most important Stone Age site as well as the beaches, marina and pavilion.

As well as museums to visit there are water based activities, including the Waves leisure pool as well as numerous shows and a theatre. At the end of the day there are plenty of restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars where you will be spoilt for choice. Here you can try the local seafood as well as enjoying a variety of foods and styles and some of the finest food and drink in the country.

Torquay along with Paignton and Brixham has plenty of shops to keep you busy as well as the usual high street brands you will find plenty of independent stores selling a variety of goods some of which you will not find anywhere else.
