Hatfield House

Where the city ends and the country begins


Hatfield house on the outskirts of London was once the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth I, the house has a history over 400 years old. The building is Jacobean and Elizabethan in style and it was her that our present monarch Queen Elizabeth II received news of her succession to the throne.

The house is full of historical treasures, including the famous rainbow portrait of Queen Elizabeth I which hangs in the marble hall.

The gardens and park are tranquil and beautiful here you can see plants and trees collected from all over Europe by the collector John Tradescant.
